Just received an email from Melyss with a link to this article about the closing of London based distribution company Intergroove UK: DJmag.com Dance News: Intergroove Goes Bust “Dance music labels, vinyl lovers, and record shops are today mourning the death of one of the world’s biggest dance music distributors.” Intergroove distributed many labels, including a large lot of some very fine breakbeat labels: 10 Kilo, Audio Bug, BoomBox, Burrito, Chi, Deep Cuts, Fat, Finger Lickin’, Functional, Jalapeno, Kilowatt, Lab-Rok, Lot 49, Marine Parade, Menu Music, Mile High, Mob, Money Shot, Punk Funk, Release, Spin Out, Splank, Streetwise, Supercharged, Tagsta, TCR, Thrust, Vertical Sound. This is pretty shocking news. Yes, i understand that the world is becoming more and more digital & yes, it’s part of the evolution of things & yes, i’m sure those of us who are still die-hard vinyl junkies will eventually adapt. The sheer number of artists and labels that will be affected by this, however, is considerably large–especially for the breaks scene. A sad day, in many regards. More thoughts on this soon.
third installment on Full Intent: Bill Vega — Running Scared / Running Scared (BSS V RNA Rmx) ok, i just got this in the mail today… and i just finished listening to both sides: dude. HOLY SHIT!!!!!!! both these tracks are OFF THE HOOK!! best one of the Full Intent releases yet. nice work, Bill. you guys are on fire. those basslines just made every inch of my house tremble. wow. WOW. WOW!!!!!!! this record is *just sitting* on my turntable & it is killing people!! every hair on my body is standing straight up right now! and i’m sweating. i can’t wait to see what else you’ve got in store for us this year. sam
you know what’s so crazy about my set last friday? i remember it record for record. i actually pulled my set-list out from that night the next day, which is something i have never been able to do. especially considering that my record box is usually a disastrous mess at the end of the night (and it was again on friday). but i remember my set so clearly, every mix, from the moment i dropped a new record in to the moment i pulled out of each mix. i just knew from the moment i dropped that first track that my set would be strong and loud and tight. i don’t think i’ve ever felt so confident. the crowd was completely there & they just wanted more and more and more. Cece had told me: “i want you to play with absolutely no mercy….” well, the crowd told me the same thing that night. it was incredible :-) SO many people came up to me that night & thanked me profusely for making that event possible. not your standard “you played a great set”, but people truly being grateful for the experience. quite remarkable.

I lost one of my most prized records over 6 months ago. It is a track by EK on the Sound Not Scene label, called Valium. I must have searched everyone’s record box, to no avail. Cody and Dave (the Carbon Community) recently teamed up with Son of the Electric Ghost. Congratulations on getting signed to Bless records, guys! Talk about my production Dreamteam. And it’s all happening in Texas. hehe. I’ve been a fan of both the Carbon Community & SOTEG for some time, and I’m really excited to hear what will come out of their collaboration in this near future.
