8 Days a Week Female DJ crew Sister S.F. has been giving support and props to Bay Area women DJs and MCs since 1997. Its members have included local favorites like XJS, Siren, Samira, Polywog, Charlotte the Baroness, and Forest Green. The collective offers resources for up-and-coming performers and promotes events and appearances by established artists. Sister S.F. and author Cathy Yardley, whose latest novel, Couch World, focuses on the life of a young female DJ in San Francisco, present a free DJ clinic for those wanting to know what it takes to be a master behind the wheels of steel. Learn about equipment, techniques, tricks, and more from the experts. Who knows? You might be the next star DJ in da club. 7-10 p.m., Norcal DJ and Music Production Academy, Ste. 190W, 600 Townsend, S.F. Free (RSVP required at info@dunamispr.com). www.sistersf.com. (Han)

Word around town is that the dormant dance music scene –along with the crowds that make it move — is coming back fast and furious. (Just check Monty Luke’s blog if you don’t believe us.) One indicator is the new party Beatmatch, in which DJs from SF’s tightest crews infuse the opulent settings of Mezzanine with a bit of the underground spirit that nourished them on the long way up. Tonight’s party offers a mix of house and breaks from Green Gorilla’s M3 and Anthony Garlic, Sister SF’s Melyss and Samira, and Space Cowboys’ Brad Robinson and Smoove. No funny business, just straight-up dance music for an energizing Friday night. (PS) Which crews were represented at the first Beatmatch party? The first correct answer wins a doublepack CD from Sister’s Melyss and Samira. flavorpill SF

Beatmatch is taking us back to the early days of the SF underground dance scene. When with an incredible passion for dance music, DJs delivered the 4/4 beats (in the strangest of locations) and the vibrant crowds went wild to make San Francisco a true player in the world of house music. Tonight, local (and exceptionally tight) DJ crews: Sister SF, Green Gorilla Lounge and the Space Cowboys are teaming up to show us how it’s done and put to rest, once and for all, that the dance music scene here is dwindling in 2004. Was just on Scott Manley’s site (aka DJ S&M), and came across this sweet little tidbit. Sam gets everywhere and is a great example of all that’s good in the SF music scene. (DJ S&M dot Com) thanks, Scott–i appreciate it! check out Scott’s mixes…this man’s been spinning for quite a number of years & he set our decks on fire with a blazing spontaneous set on Keri’s birthday! :-)
