Pasha
Our dear friend Pasha has been hospitalized in a trauma center in Odessa, Texas, where he was brought some time Tuesday, after being found lying beside his car in a place called Iraan, Texas. He was enroute from Houston to Tucson. Nobody knows what happened. He has a closed head injury, badly broken hip and femur, and other damage. And he is unconscious. if you want to read more about Pasha’s progress, there’s currently a website that’s being updated by his parents and some friends. you may leave messages, words of encouragement & strength: HERE i first met Pasha when Aaron and i lived together on College Avenue in Berkeley. Some seven years ago. And of course, i loved him from the moment i met him. i remember this huge boat of a car he was driving at the time & how loud it was & how he’d park it on our front lawn & how ridiculous it looked there, but what a joy it was to know it was parked there, because it meant that Pasha was visiting. The last time i spoke with Pasha was a few months ago. He and Aaron were chatting online and they had video cams set up. When i walked into Aaron’s room, he said, Guess who i’m talking to, Sam? and he pointed at the screen & it was Pasha! i must have waved at him for 5 minutes uninterrupted. And he waved back & he was Pasha & he gestured a long arm’s gesture through the space around him & said: this is my new place. How do you like it? Despite the fact that Pasha and i don’t spend time together on a very regular basis, over the past seven years he has always been a constant in my life–and that is one of joy and smiles and fun & laughter & great hugs. When Josh told me what had happened, the world suddenly became very static & still & clouded with disbelief. He is in my thoughts every day. As are Pasha’s parents & all of you whose lives he has touched. i’m going to record a new CD this week, which i will dedicate to him. my thoughts enfold you all. be strong. much love sam may he spin fire again soon.
