DJ Ghost Dogg

Just finished listening to DJ Ghost Dogg’s Making Things Worse, and i highly recommend checking this out. All original stuff, and the whole thing is just excellent. You can get it at Ceiba Records (lower Haight), or mailorder it from them: HERE
here’s some of what i wrote to Michael as my response to his CD: nice complicated beat patterns, interspersed with longer vocal samples. very heady material–makes you think. very picturesque. and the whole CD feels like a play, with many acts. ok, just finished listening to the whole CD. i’m really impressed. it is so cohesive–all the tracks work well together, and they work well in THAT very sequence. some things that stand out to me: i think you’re very good at creating dichotamies between the very pretty/angelic sounds and the dark/looming basslines. i love that kind of contrast in music. i also really like your use of vocal samples. it’s really nice to hear some them return in later tracks–gives the CD that dreamscape sense. you don’t overuse vocal samples, either, which i really appreciate. their meaning tends to get lost with overuse. but i think you’ve got the balance just right. the percussive elements are great, throughout the whole thing. wide range of styles, yet the transitions are smooth. the only thing i’d say is, i would love to hear you do some stuff at higher BPMs. for utterly selfish reasons. i love my breaks dark, yet melodic; looming but pretty. i like sinister & you definately convey sinister well from what i’ve heard.
